Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is a web-based application developed by Vanderbilt University to capture data for clinical research and create databases and projects. It is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)–compliant, highly secure, and intuitive to use. The databases use instruments such as surveys and forms as research capture tools. Projects are self-sufficient and secure databases that can be used for normal data entry or for surveys across multiple distinct time points. They are workflow-based and focus on collecting data and exporting it to statistical programs and other data analysis software. REDCap is designed to provide a secure environment so that research teams can collect and store highly sensitive information. Many medical libraries have started using REDCap for assessment and capturing of data for projects.

We use two different methods for login, local users and MIDAS. If you aren't sure which to use, consult the graph on the landing page.
Local Users
This is for legacy users who have been moved over from EVMS's instance. Please use the 'Use local REDCap login' when logging in.
MIDAS Users
This is for legacy users from ODU's old instance and any new users after 10/25/2025. Please use the 'Use MIDAS login' option and click the Monarch-Key Web Login image.
Redcap provides really good training services on the application itself.
Once logged in, navigate to 'Help & FAQ' for answers to specific questions or navigate to 'Training Videos' for a more video based learning environment.
Once a project is created, there are more videos and information on the project page's sidebar. This can be found under 'Help & Information.'
You can create a project simply by selecting the 'Create Project' tab on the navigation bar.
You can either create a blank project, or use one of Redcap's built in templates.
