💥 Level Up Your Research with HPC! 💥 — Do you need more computing power to do your research? Whether you are dealing with massive datasets or complex simulations, the ODU High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster provides the speed and scale you need to accelerate your work.
The “Intro to HPC” workshop provides a basic primer of Wahab, ODU’s primary HPC environment. Topics covered include: connecting to the cluster, using the job scheduler, accessing software, data storage, and file transfer. A combination of tutorials and practical exercises will instill confidence and basic skills in using HPC for your own research.

New to HPC and research computing? The “Intro to HPC” is the “must have” workshop we recommend for new users!
Get a hands-on exposure to Google Cloud and learn how to put it to work for your research! This workshop introduces the GCP environment with a focus on the tools and services most relevant to research projects — no prior cloud experience required.
You'll learn:
Hands-on practice bonus! Every attendee gets access to a sandbox environment to experiment with GCP tools throughout the workshop. Please be sure to have your laptop/desktop ready to do the exercises!
What does it look like to use AI agents as part of an actual research workflow? In this workshop, we’ll use an agent to help refine an open ended research question, design and implement an experiment, and prepare jobs to launch on an HPC cluster in quest for the answer. As experiments run, we’ll employ the agent to inspect logs, benchmark performance, compare results, troubleshoot issues, and help decide what to test next.
The session will use a visual GPU-based example to demonstrate the full research loop, including Slurm execution, result interpretation, experimental refinement, scaling, and performance analysis. The researcher remains responsible for the scientific decisions and conclusions.
Note: This workshop consists of two 1-hour sessions spread over two Thursdays. We recommend that you attend both of them for the best benefit!
